Adopting an FHHR Horse
Contact freedom.hill.org@gmail.com if you are interested in one of our adoptable horses. While the adoption is not guaranteed, we suggest potential adopters meet the horse at our facility. We do our best to ensure that the horse and adopter are the perfect match. In doing so, we hope that the horse will remain at their forever home and not have to return to the rescue.

Adoption Requirements
We require the following before you can submit an adoption application:
-
Multiple, supervised visits with the horse.
-
An intended barn or stable location within 60 miles of our facility.
-

Adoption Requirements & Process
1
Initial Inquiry & Visit
Please email us at freedom.hill.org@gmail.com if you are interested in one of our adoptable horses. You can learn more about them by visiting the Adoptable page. Then, schedule an appointment to meet our horses, where you can interact with them one-on-one and learn more about them in person. A volunteer from FHHR will be present to facilitate the meeting.
2
Secondary Visit & Application
If you think you've met your new furry friend, schedule a second appointment with us. After your second appointment, we will accept an adoption application for a nonrefundable $25 fee.
3
Application Processing
While your application is being processed, please schedule more visits with the horse. Bonding is an especially important part of the adoption process! We process your application by visiting or inquiring about the future stable the horse will live in, contacting references, and more. Make sure to notify your references, vet, farrier, and equine dentist that we will be contacting them or it can hold up the process.
4
Application Decision
Applications are usually processed within 1-2 weeks of submission. You will hear back from us with a decision as soon as we have conducted our inquires.
5
After Adoption Check-Ins
As part of our adoption contract, a representative from FHHR will check in or visit you and your horse 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year after adoption. After passing the 1-year mark, ownership of the horse will legally be transferred to the adopter. Until that time, the horse will still be owned by FHHR.
Fostering an FHHR Horse
Contact freedom.hill.org@gmail.com if you are interested in fostering one of our horses. Fosters can do so on-site at our facility or off-site at theirs. Please see the requirements below for off-site fostering. Fostering a horse helps by paying for a portion of their necessary care and potentially opening a space for a new horse to find a home at FHHR.
