Rainbow Bridge

Over 20 years of helping horses has allowed us to meet some special friends along the way. This page honors those horses who've passed away while living at our rescue or their forever homes. We believe that once a horse is an FHHR horse, they are always an FHHR horse.

Sissy

1998-2025

Sissy came to FHHR in 2023 when her former owner, Missy, made the hard decision to surrender her. Sissy was a sweet lady who would nicker “hello” at everyone who walked past her stall. She was a favorite of many volunteers and very much loved by her fosters, Lisa and Caitlin D. Sissy loved to be cuddled and was fond of her sugar-free treats. She could often be found snoozing in the sun on colder days or napping under a fan on warmer ones. While she didn’t always like being with other horses, she loved her people. Unfortunately, Sissy was struggling with advanced Cushing’s Disease and had been experiencing multiple abscesses in her hooves for several months. Our horse healthcare team worked diligently to treat Sissy and extend her life. However, the hard decision was made to end her suffering. Sissy and her bright personality and nickers of "hello" will always be remembered.

Lu

1994-2025

Lu was FHHR President Lori’s horse. She had gotten him 13 years ago when she was looking for a horse for her daughter. They quickly bonded, and he became her best friend. Lu went on many adventures before being boarded at FHHR. While he was never a rescue horse, he still worked during our events and programs. Many visitors may recognize Lu as one of the horses they had a chance to ride during their visit. Lu was a sweet and gentle boy who was the perfect beginner horse for new volunteers. After years of being boarded outside, he loved staying in his stall and knew exactly how to get there when coming in from the field. He was also very easy-going and happy to be in any herd he was put in. Unfortunately, it was discovered that Lu’s colon was displaced, and given his old age, the decision was made to end his suffering. Lu was sweet to all, and we will miss him dearly.

Whiskey

2002-2025

Whiskey came to FHHR in 2023 after his former family made the difficult decision to surrender him to us. He quickly became a volunteer and visitor favorite. His gentle demeanor and bright personality made many fall in love with him, including his adopter, Ashley. Whiskey was adopted around Christmas of 2023 and lived the rest of his days boarded by Ashley at FHHR. He participated in all of our programs, events, and more, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who got to meet him. In September of 2023, Whiskey began experiencing symptoms of colic. After the vet's examination, it was determined that he had a twisted gut, and Ashley made the difficult decision to end his suffering. He was loved by many, and we will miss this sweet boy.
