Program & Sanctuary Horses
Our program and sanctuary horses are selected based on their health and well-being. If we feel that it is in a horse's best interest to remain at the rescue, then they become a permanent resident at FHHR. Many of these horses participate in our events and programs.
These horses are looking for Horse Angel Sponsors and potential on-site fosters.
Apollo
Born in 1996.
Quarter Horse Gelding
15.1 Hands High
Apollo came to FHHR in 2019 with former FHHR horse, Jack. He and Jack were rescued from a horse hoarding situation and brought to FHHR extremely malnourished and under-weight. We discovered that he had been a horse at Maryland Therapeutic Riding before he was retired and sold. He also has an extensive background in western riding.
Apollo has seasonal allergies and COPD. We monitor his breathing and give him the necessary medication, as needed, whenever the heat, dust, etc. bother him. Apollo is a very sweet horse who loves having a job to do. He is gentle and enjoys working with children during our programs.
Apollo is currently sponsored by Sharon F.
Badger
Born in 2004.
Paint Gelding
14.2 Hands High
Badger is a little guy with a big personality. He arrived at FHHR in September 2021 after he was diagnosed with Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM) and Lyme Disease. His former owner could not afford his treatment, so he made the hard decision to surrender Badger to FHHR.
This handsome guy is a chestnut and white paint with a bald face. Visitors may notice his wobbly gait which is a result of having EPM for an extensive time. Today, Badger is doing well and is no longer showing signs of either disease. While he cannot be ridden, he does enjoy routine groundwork exercises with his foster mom. Badger is a funny guy who has an amazing side-eye.

Dawson
Born in 1994.
Thoroughbred Gelding
15.1 Hands High
Dawson came to FHHR in 2015 after he retired from a rigorous lesson and jumping program. He was briefly adopted but was returned through no fault of his own. In 2021, our veterinarians decided it would be best to remove his left eye. He has adjusted quite well to the change!
Visitors may notice that Dawson is a little thinner than our other horses. Due to his advanced age, Dawson's teeth have become very worn down and he has trouble chewing grass and hay. To keep him at a healthy weight, volunteers feed Dawson's three full meals a day. This has kept his weight steady and his figure full. Dawson is a well-loved member of the FHHR family and is loved by many volunteers who give him lots of scratches (his favorite!).
Dawson is currently sponsored by Alex & Brandon P., Kendra E., and Victor L.
Delilah
Born in 1996.
Quarter Horse Mare
15 Hands High
Delilah came to FHHR in 2017 after she was found abandoned with four other horses. She arrived with former FHHR horse, Gabe. Her iconic rounded ears are the result of having suffered from frostbite long before she came to the rescue. Delilah has arthritis and navicular issues. However, we have worked with our farriers over the years and she can now walk comfortably without shoes.
Delilah is a "unicorn" in that she has cremello coloring and a possible champagne gene with green/blue eyes. Delilah is a sweet lady who enjoys taking a nap at all times of the day. She also loves working with children during our events and programs.
Delilah is currently fostered on-site by Anna D. and Beth M.
Delilah is currently sponsored by Marcie S.
Mystery
Born in 1995.
Arabian Gelding
14 Hands High
Mystery, or Mysterious Me, came to FHHR in the winter of 2025. He was surrendered to us after his former owner passed away and his remaining humans wanted a place for him to go where he would be loved for the rest of his days. He is currently being treated for Cushing's Disease.
Before coming to us, Mystery had lived in the same location for over twenty years. This is a big change for such a little guy, so we are slowly introducing him to our herd and volunteers. Once he has fully acclimated to his new home, he will be a wonderful addition to our events and programs. We have already found that Mystery is a very sweet and friendly guy, so we're sure he'll win the hearts of all of our visitors!
Mystery is currently sponsored by Debbie N.
Sir Magic
Born in 1998.
Thoroughbred Gelding
16 Hands High
Sir Magic was surrendered to FHHR in April 2024 by his former owners. They made this hard decision after life events made it necessary for them to find Sir a new home. Sir has bulked up quite a bit since he arrived and has become best friends with Apollo.
Sir has a history of racing and even won some awards! Despite his athletic background, he is a very mellow man who loves meeting new friends and eating lots of hay. So far, he has participated in our Reading Day programs and we hope he will be a great addition to our Scout programs this year.
Sir Magic is currently sponsored by Debbie N., Heidi M. and
Leslie C.
River
Born in 2005.
Tennessee Walker Gelding
15.3 Hands High
River arrived at FHHR in 2010 with five other horses, including his half-brother and former FHHR horse, Mickey Blue. The group came from a hoarding situation and was found eating tree bark to survive. River was briefly adopted but returned through no fault of his own. In 2018, River was diagnosed with Lyme Disease and Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM). He was successfully treated for both diseases and currently shows no signs of either.
River is a very soulful horse who enjoys snuggling and getting attention from volunteers and visitors. While he may seem a bit introverted, he quickly warms up to visitors and loves working at our events and programs. He's a quiet man but has the sweetest personality.
River is currently fostered on-site by Emma C.
